Random Thoughts #9

Random guy: So even if there isn't a God you can't deny that religion is useful to society, Can you ?
Me :Yes it's useful.
As a tool of oppression.
As an excuse for violence.
As a money making scam.
As a method of control..
and...
As a thing to mock

Random Thoughts #8

If there is one thing that differentiates humans from the rest of the species in this world, it would be our capacity to make art, (be it literature, music, painting, sculpting or film)
Now science and mathematics are fundamental even if we didn't find these laws and theorems they would still exist, we just wouldn't know about them. Language can be thought of as a more advanced form of communication between species, although linguists would fight me on this. But anyway that's not what I am trying to say.
When we married our imagination with sciences and language we made what we call art, the most beautiful thing we see in this world and for which some of us live for.
Unfortunately some miscreants married their stupidity with what they discovered and unfortunately we got something that starts with an R and ends with an N and the greatest killer in the history of mankind.
Edit : I think the more accurate description would be they "tried" to marry their stupidity with discoveries resulting in Religion.

Random Thoughts #7

Love is beautiful to write of in poetry. But I guess in a cynical world love can only be truly pure in that romanticized form we see in poems. For now I see only broken promises and deceiving hearts. Now love is all about personal gain, nothing more nothing less. At least we still have poetry and fairy tales and literature in general to look up to. Ah the irony of the words they once said "I will never leave you".
Looking back I can only think of one thing to say "Shit Happens"

Random Thoughts #6 (We are our Memories)

There are some moments in life, that though many an age would have passed, yet would seem like it were only yesterday. Maybe they define you, maybe they are you, for what is individuality but the sum of our experiences and memories ?

Random Thoughts #5 (My lineage in literature)

For those of you who don't know. I am not a published author. While it remains a dream of mine to someday publish a collection of the poems I've written so far, there is something else I wish could also happen. Which is that one day my parents would actually understand at the very least one of my poems. Amazingly despite writing myself into a university youth festival winning port and also regularly coming on the radio to recite my poetry no one in my family has any associations with literature what so ever. Strange it seems, but hey that's life for you. Perhaps the greatest irony I've ever seen is the son of a man who found 7th grade English poetry tough went on to write English poetry at this level and maintains this blog

#Scribbles #5

Thinking back to my father's words,
Which always seemed so cold.
I remember them fondly now,
Maybe I'm getting old
